I’m Mr.VGA, in real life I’m a graphic designer and illustrator trying to split my time between my work, my family and my hobby, gaming. Time for a little history, like many others of my generation I began my gaming career with Atari but I really cut my gaming teeth with Nintendo and PC games (mostly revolving around the Sierra family). As time moved on I found myself working more and gaming less to the point where all traces disappeared.
Fast forward about eight years. I find myself married to Mrs.VGA and playing some DosBox nostalgia as well as sporting a fairly serious . . . wow addiction. Lucky for me, my wife is awesome and I didn’t get TOO lost in the land of Azeroth. For me there was only one cure and that was an addition to our VGA family, also referred to as The Next Generation. Yep, unsurprisingly it’s kind of impossible to maintain a good gaming relationship while taking care of a baby unless you are running for the worst husband/dad award, so after depriving myself of sleep short of insanity, I ditched the WoW, landed me an Xbox and haven’t looked back.
Since then, things have gone well for me but I still find it hard to judge exactly what to acquire for my collection as I lack a gamer category to fit in with. Personally, I like to think of myself as casually-hardcore gamer with an affinity for RPG, Puzzle, and Sandbox style games. I used to love shooters but annoying brats tend to plague the online play and thus they fell from my list of loves—that being said, Mass Effect and the Halo series dominate my replay shelf so clearly they haven’t fallen that far. Mainly I’m just looking for replay value because let’s face it, some games today just aren’t challenging and frankly, you never want to play them again. Generally when I buy a game the following sentence comes to my mind:
“Oh man, I can only swing ONE GAME out of the THREE awesome ones I want this month!! WHICH ONE?!?!?“.
Sound familiar? Then this is where you belong. Be you gamer Moms or Dads, I swear to bring you the honest truth on all things gaming new and old and occasionally make you laugh because lets face it, you need it.
Sincerely,
Mr.VGA + The Next Generation
